AFT Local 6486 at the UW Board of Regents Meeting

In a short speech at the November 14 meeting, Daphne Mackey asked the Board of Regents to support the union’s efforts to reach a fair labor agreement with the University of Washington. She informed the Board of the union’s goals and expressed concern about the University’s proposals and refusal to mediate their differences. She asked the Regents to join others in the University community as well as government leaders in urging that negotiations move forward.

UEA offers special incentive to new members

This year, UEA is offering a special incentive for new members. Here are the details of the offer and the benefits that come with full membership.

Normally, Active Membership for 2013-14 would be $12.84 more per paycheck.  As a special incentive this year, we are waiving the local UEA component for those who sign on to Active membership.

This means you pay only an additional $49 over the course of the entire year in order to acquire the range of member benefits.  At this special incentive rate, over 16 paychecks that is only $3.07 extra cost per paycheck.

Prescription Problems?

(11/22/13) - Contact Dean Mancina at cfemancina@yahoo.com if you have had a recent issue with new or refill prescriptions via mail order or at a retail pharmacy and you are in the PPO plan.  Some members have reported problems obtaining the quantity of pills your doctor prescribed, or getting the specific prescription drug your doctor prescribed.  Some have been told the reason why is that our prescription plan changed.  That's not true.  Medco was bought out last year by Express Scripts, and we are starting to wonder if the company change is

Next fall, Mauricio Ramos will enter the University of Texas at Arlington to major in computer science. “My career goal is to become a computer programmer, definitely,” he says. Washington State Legislators Urge UW to Negotiate a Fair Contract

Seven Washington State legislators, including Rep. Gerry Pollet and Rep. Larry Seaquist, vice-chair and chair of the House Higher Education Committee,  wrote to UW President Young to encourage UW to negotiate a fair contract that provides a living wage and job stability for UW English Language Faculty.
