MPEC Statement on BPW Decision

Attached please find MPEC President Jerry Smith's statement on today's Board of Public Works decision to delay cuts to state employees.

MPEC represents 5,000 state employees across a number of agencies throughout the state including but not limited to the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Juvenile Services, and the State Highway Administration.

CUB Distributes PPE to Worksites

The City Union of Baltimore continues to try to protect members as best as possible while they continue to provide essential services to the citizens of Baltimore. President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson and organizer Janell Edmonds made drop offs of essential personal protective equipment (PPE) to two locations where members are still on the job.

Ohio Federation of Teachers Announces Endorsements for the Ohio General Assembly and Ohio Supreme Court

Today, the Ohio Federation of Teachers announced state level endorsements for the 2020 general election in Ohio, including 58 endorsements for the Ohio House, 13 endorsements for the Ohio Senate, and two endorsements for the Ohio Supreme Court. 
 
“The current General Assembly and Ohio Supreme Court has shown us what it looks like when state policy is made without sufficient input from teachers and supporters of public education and workers’ rights. We end up freezing funding for public schools, diverting more public funds to unaccountable private schools, and putting anti-government ideology ahead of pragmatic public health solutions,” said OFT President Melissa Cropper.

2020-2021 Employment Update

During the spring of this school year, schools received their projected staffing allocations for the upcoming school year. That meant gains at some schools and eliminations at others. While most Teacher based employees were able to secure positions in other locations, we still have some support employees who have not reached mutual consent.
