As many of you are aware, three of DCSD's seven school board seats are up for election on November 5th. Like previous school board elections, all the candidates are making promises and portraying themselves as defenders of public education, committed to our students, friends of the teachers and staff, unwavering supporters of our community.

 

But this year, unlike a number of previous school board elections, determining who is truly committed to the success of our schools and who is only saying things to win votes is less clear.

AFTHCMD Meets with State Leaders

AFT-Maryland organizer Robin Raynor helped organize a meeting between state workers at Spring Grove Hospital Center and elected officials. State Sen. Bill Ferguson and Del. Brooke Lierman joined union staff and members at the facility to discuss the ongoing challenges state healthcare workers face.

Louisiana Federation of Teachers and School Employees (LFT), has announced endorsements for the 2019 primary elections. 75 candidates have been selected from around the state who have each demonstrated their commitment to supporting public education issues which influence our schools, our teachers, and our students.

CUB Retiree Officer Installation 2019

The City Union of Baltimore Retiree Chapter (CUB 800-R) held elections and officer installation on Friday, September 20, 2019. Donald Morris was re-elected President. James Carroll will serve as the Vice President, with Betty Lee as Treasurer and Elizabeth Morris as Secretary.

BCFPHN members meet with Delegate Cullison

Our community nurses provide an invaluable service to the public. As with any job however, training is of the utmost importance. Our members want the training they need to do their job well for Marylanders. Following the leadership of president Karen Pilecki the union has been working with Del. Bonnie Cullison to develop training standards and expand on existing training.
