A scandal-plagued program adopted by the legislature in 2012 will be funded by taking money dedicated to at-risk prekindergarten students and other initiatives aimed at improving student performance.

AFTMD Locals Show Support for South Korean Education Workers

AFT-Maryland local unions stand in support of South Korean education support workers who are an integral part of students' educational programs yet have no job stability or fair wages based on experience.

Staff and members of the City Union of Baltimore (CUB, Local 800, pictured to the right), Maryland Professional Employees Council (MPEC, Local 6197) and Maryland Classified Employees Association (MCEA, Local 1935) had their photos taken with supportive signs, collected by AFT to be shared with the workers in the effort in South Korea.

NTA Joins the Fight, Goes to Rally in Albany

NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi made the call and NTA answered. On June 8th 28 NTA members boarded a bus to head to Albany to the “One Voice United” Rally, sponsored by the New York State United Teachers and more than one dozen other education, labor, community, business and faith based organizations. The focus of the rally was on the state’s over-emphasis on standardized testing and increasing power of giant testing companies over education policy.

EMUFT member John Fike raises money for student scholarhips

John Fike, a part-time lecturer in the Political Science Department, is planning a 450-mile cycling trip to raise money for student scholarhips.  He will begin the 12-day trip with his wife in Lansing on June 29.  You can follow him on Facebook at the Michigan Bike Tour to Benefit EMU Students Facebook page.
