At the August 2015 meeting of the PECCC, members voted to issue a statement of support for our co-workers in the College's CSEA unit. The following memo, approved by the Executive Committee, was sent to trustees and college leadership on August 28.
Honorable Trustees:
The Professional Educators of Corning Community College (PECCC) are proud to express support for our CCC colleagues, the members of the Corning Community College unit of CSEA.
Day in and day out, we the faculty, along with all other CCC employees and students, depend on the hard work and dedication of our CSEA sisters and brothers to keep the College’s buildings and grounds open, clean, accessible, beautiful, and, most importantly, safe. To put it plainly, without our CSEA co-workers this institution would not run, and we would never be able to carry out our own work on behalf of students and the community.
However, our support for the college’s CSEA members goes beyond appreciation. We understand that their current fight for a fair contract is part of a larger fight for the future of the College. If CCC is to be a great place to learn, it must first be a great place to work—for every person who helps to fulfill our shared mission.
As the CSEA stands up, therefore, we stand with them, now and into the future.
